Police seize counterfeit goods at Huntington car-boot sale

Half a million pounds worth of counterfeit DVDs have been seized from a Huntington car boot sale.

Officers from Watling Street Neighbourhood Policing Unit (NPU) seized 20,000 counterfeit goods during an operation last weekend.

The team of 20 police officers, including officers from the Special Constabulary, and Stafford Trading Standards conducted a plain-clothes operation at the Cocksparrow Lane car boot sale as part of the haul.

Officers seized more than 20,000 counterfeit DVDs and blue-ray discs with a street value of £500,000.

Five people, four from the West Midlands and one person from Staffordshire, were detained at the scene, to be dealt with by trading standards.

As part of the ongoing commitment to community reassurance and confidence, the multi-agency campaigns will continue in a bid to combat the sale of counterfeit goods.

The discs seized are of a low-grade quality and people purchasing them are wasting their money and supporting local criminality, said police.

Sgt Cooke said: “Our officers and partner agencies are committed to working together to tackle and reduce this type of crime and we aim to keep those selling counterfeit goods out of the division.

“Shoppers can make a genuine contribution to stopping counterfeit goods reaching all customers.”
